Crown Plunge indoor pool

~
Nothing struck fear into a young boy like the high dive tower at Blakely's. Or perhaps you preferred the water slide at Maple Plunge. But to a young man, Lake Millerton or Lost Lake was the destination. Remember the ice rink in Pinedale? Post your favorite Summer Activity here.

An old Fresno Bee ad gives the address as 1730 H St.

The only downtown indoor pool of which I am aware was built and opened as the Fresno Natatorium. The pool was later boarded over and it became the dance floor of the Rainbow Ballroom.

I remember the Crown Plunge on H Street. It's where I learned to swim along about 1935. As I recall, the swim lessons were given by the Y.M.C.A.

The building where the crown plunge was located is now the Fresno IdeaWorks building! Inside they have a full wall dedicated to the history of the building and it’s indoor pool!

Fresno Ideaworks bought the Crown Plunge building in August 2018 from the family that built it in 1928. We'd love to hear more of your stories about it, and if you have pictures to share they'd be helpful as we renovate and as we build a model of the original structure for the lobby. Email info@FresnoIdeaworks.org
Thanks!
