Fort Miller Blockhouse - Is it Lost?
Most of you should remember the Fort Miller Blockhouse that stood in Roeding Park from 1944 - to the 1980s. In the 1990s, it was removed from Roeding Park and today it might be stored someplace? I guess the Table Mountain Rancheria people have it? It was supposed to be rebuilt near the Fort Miller Court House, is it there? I've not been there in a very long time. Also near the blockhouse was a painted gold Sherman tank that is located I think it's now at Eagle Field.

I'd also be interested to know where the Blockhouse is. The gold tank that sat in front of the Blockhouse was not a Sherman, but actually a Stewart.

I'm looking for the Fort Miller current location as well. It is an important part of old Fresno and I remember it when visiting the park as a child. I found a 1964 article about the history of the Fort and I'm sharing it here. The continued on page 2C photo is a little hard to follow was I has to cut it up a bit to fit our forum. If anyone has memories of their visits to the Fort, please share them here!

IIRC, an article in the Bee several years back said the fort is currently dismantled and in storage someplace, but I'm not sure where. I also remember it and the tank in Roeding Park, as well as the fort having a small museum inside.

Anybody ever ride the trolley to Roeding Park to see the Blockhouse?

The blockhouse at its original location before it was moved to the park. I remember seeing it as a kid but it was only about half this size and had been repaired at that point.

Nice photo from a postcard showing how it looked after being restored and relocated to the park.

Table Mountain Rancheria has a lot of the old Fort Miller buildings. They were rebuilding the structures last I heard, but I don't know if they ever finished.

Another shot of Fort Miller before it was restored and moved to Roeding Park, but not in as bad shape as the old photo a few posts up.
