Toby's Books on Belmont?

Do you remember the Country Boys Market with its wooden floors? Walter Smiths was the place to go for clothes on the Fulton Mall. Penny Candy had great blacklight posters and don't forget Whitie's Pet Store on Blackstone. What vintage retail do you remember growing up in Fresno?

Toby's Books on Belmont?

Post by tomc » Tue Jan 26, 2010 12:37 am

Does anyone remember this bookstore? It was on Belmont near Maple if I remember correctly. I think it closed in the early 80s. it might have been spelled with an "e" (Tobey's). Any info or recollections are welcome!

I think it was owned and operated by Carol (Gussy) Gostanian, who previously o & o'd Penny Candy and The Orange Ogre, one of Fresno's first gay bar, later re-named The Bit.

I think he is correct about the store's ownership.
