DeVaux Swimming Pool

~
Nothing struck fear into a young boy like the high dive tower at Blakely's. Or perhaps you preferred the water slide at Maple Plunge. But to a young man, Lake Millerton or Lost Lake was the destination. Remember the ice rink in Pinedale? Post your favorite Summer Activity here.

DeVaux Swimming Pool

Post by shirleyken » Mon Dec 17, 2018 12:55 pm

Devaux was a popular swimming pool located on Moroa Ave. in the Fig Gardens. Along about 1939 -1940, we lived on W. Michigan Ave. In the summer, we kids would ride our bikes to DeVaux, a distance a little over two miles. (If I tried that now, they'd be soon calling the paramedics.) We would spend the day, then pedal home.

I don't know when it closed, but it's now The Fig Garden Swim & Racquet Club.
I also remember Weymouth Swimming Pool. During the war, there were always lots of soldiers from the local bases there.
