Dragon Cafe on Tulare

Pulling into the Mars Drive-in for a Lime Rickey. Ordering up a burger from the car hop at the A&W on Blackstone. Checking out the action at Bob's Big Boy. Your favorite grilled cheese sandwich at the Woolworths Counter. Don't forget loading up at Perry Boys Smorgy. What eats do you miss?

Dragon Cafe on Tulare

Post by duffles » Sat Feb 02, 2013 1:13 am

My family had various Chinese restaurants from the 30's until the 70's. Does anyone remember Dragon Cafe in downtown Fresno. During WWII there was an all-girl band that performed there. Cathey Inn was on Fulton, off Olive in the Tower District. It had old "private" wooden booths. Shangri-La Cafe on Belmont near Palm was opened in the 40's also. It had a great double long bar, and my Dad was the bartender who never forgot a face and name.

My dad worked there as the head chef in the 60's. Such nice people. I remember the generous toys given Christmas time.
