Long Gone Bars, Nightclubs and Other Fun Night Spots

~
Come back with us now to those hot summer nights when half of Fresno's teens were driving up and down Belmont. Or remember what it was like on Fulton St. before Belmont took the title of "Fresno's Main Drag" Remember the Rainbow Ballroom? Post you night life memories here.

What was the place at Belmont and Chestnut? Was demolished in the 90s.
The Friendly Spot was on the south side of Belmont just west of Chestnut

The building that was home to Fresno Feed & Fuel, Porky's and Woody's is soon to be demolished. https://www.fresnobee.com/living/food-d ... 01562.html
Originally built for and opened as "Gandolfs" for fine dining, although as I recall, there was a little too much MSG used to season the food! The major tenant of the new center was the Foodland Market branch (of the original Foodland market store which was an original first tenant of the then new Fig Garden Village in 1955. The Foodland at First and Barstow was famous for having the butchers who used to work at Continental Market at the corner of Holland and Blackstone after it closed. Continental was known for having the best butchers in town and was a two-store "chain," the other store being in the Bay Area.

MSG?

I worked in that kitchen when Johnson the owner re-made it into Fresno Feed and Fuel... 1977(?), no MSG, just amazing three course meals for about $13 and change not including drinks or the favorite appetizer, "Turkey Nuts"... As a waiter we loved it when you sent them back uneaten, we scarfed them with melted butter. The Bar was another world.

There was a nightclub in downtown Fresno, and I believe that the address was 1903 P Street. A beautiful brick building that has "Old Fresno Warehouse Row" painted on it now. Anyone remember the name?

Anyone old enough to remember a nightclub downtown fresno 1940's era? Had to take an elevator to the upper floor in the building to access the fine dinning and bar and dancing. Joe Cannon was the owner.
