We must have climbed the front of that waterfall a thousand times! You could go around the back and easily climb the hill, but that was cheating.

This picture looks directly at the vineyard that was soon to be ripped out to build McLane HS. The English family (Butch, Priscilla, and Margie) had just moved into the corner house.

This is right after they tore up the vineyard to build McLane HS. You can see a big pile of grape vines in the background. They set fire to them the next day and they burned for a couple of days. Cal Kalkowski rescued 2 or 3 of them and I imagine they are still growing in the backyard on Princeton.

That's the Heitzig house on the left and to the right of it is the Kalkowski house.

In the background you can see Sacred Heart Catholic church on N. Cedar being built.

Climbing on and in the locomotive in Roeding Park used to be a lot of fun. The bell was still there and we loved to ring it.

In the mid 1950's everyone seemed to be in a panic over a "fire bug" who was starting residential fires. This photo shows (in the distance) one of the fires from the West Side. Notice the mail man: Mail came TWICE A DAY back then.

When they tore out the vineyard to build McLane HS they also bulldozed the farm house that used to be there. We built a tree house in that big tree and played in the old basement.

Here is what was left of the farm house where McLane HS now stands.
