That is correct. West side of Golden State, just north of the old Beacon Truck Stop. The old building was still there a few years ago..

I believe the demarquis was located on south bound Golden State Blvd just north of Chestnut Ave. ( before it was an over- pass).

Back in 1970+ does anyone remember THE SOUL PATROL. They played at the bar on Belmont across from the park, on the east side , right as you came under the over pass, called The El Dorado?

I was keyboard player for a band called The 3rd Chapter back in the 70's. We played The New Shalimar club on First & McKinley. Also, The Point After (which later became the Keyboard Lounge.)

I remember a band called The Shag, or as on the posters called Shag. They were first called The Lavender Hill Mob. A very good band. Denny Burt was the Lead Guitarist, and David Chevoya was the Harmonica player. They had a girl singer at one time. They opened for Big Brother and the Holding Company when Janis Joplin was just getting started. Thank you very much for mentioning them. The whole Fresno area as well as the Central Valley has had many well known players. In Merced The Brouges became Quicksilver Messenger Service. Tom Johnston of the Doobie Brothers is from Visalia, and Steve Perry from Journey is from Leemore/Hanford. And let me add Fresno has some of the best Automotive artist on the planet.
