As a kid we didn’t have much money. My Mom would take my brother and I to the quarter midget races on McKinley and we’d get a jug of A&W root beer, a loaf of bread and Bologna and watch the races. They were free.
Today, Goodtimes Quarter midget associaciation holds races at a small track in front of Madera speedway. Spectators are free and the club even has free arrive and drive events where all equipment and a car is supplied for free for kids to try out a quarter midget racing.
Our Grandson currently races there. It’s a great outing. The next race is October 22nd 2022
Spectators are free.

I remember the quarter midget track as well. We lived on Peach and Olive so we were able to walk there for the excitement of watching the races. Always wanted to drive one but finances didn't allow it. Had to putt around with my go cart and dream about being a real race driver. Fun times.

Yes! As a youngster I raced there as a brother team. My dad a body and fender man built all our cars. He knew how to build fast cars that allowed us to most often take the fastest qualifying times and sit in the pole position at each race. My dad made winning easy by building the best cars. As I recall we loved that track because it was a steep banked track. Very professional with grand stands and PA
My dad was Earl Key owner of Key Auto body in San Rafael Ca. My brothers Randy Billy and I raced all around California in the late 60’s. Fresno Sunnyvale Anaheim Bakersfield San Jose Santa Rosa. My finest win was at the Portland Oregon Grand Nationals Novice Champion

We Raced there 1965-1969, great times as a kid from the small town of Orosi. My Brother Nick and I thought we would follow the Vuky Family tradition as Valley Racers. Family situation changed and that was it. Thought we would end up at Kerney Bowl. We did pretty darn good in a few short years. My Dad John helped build and develop the Rice cars in Hayward (we moved up there for 2 years) I became the test driver before cars where shipped out, Won the Western States Glendale Ca 68, (First race in my New Rice car built by my Dad, second one built with up swept tail) went on to Phoenix 69 too win Grand National.

I do recall this track, because a family friend from Selma had kids who raced quarter midgets. I agree on the location you mentioned, that sounds right. Great fun when I was kid.

Does anyone remember an incredibly cool quarter-midget racing track, located on McKinley Ave. It was not far from the CA Air Nat'l Guard complex (which by the way, sure has grown over the years!) As a youngster around 5-6 years old, I found this little racing track, with bleachers and lighting and a PA system and kids driving these cool racing cars in real races. To a youngster such as myself, this was all just way too Kool! Fresno was really a hot bed of racin' back then. A few bucks could sure purchase a lot of fun! Seems like yesterday...
